The Selenite Charging Plate
Known as “Liquid Light,” Selenite is a crystallized form of Gypsum. A raw plate is essentially a slab of natural Selenite that has been cleaved along its natural planes, often leaving the edges rough, fibrous, and snowy. Unlike polished versions, a raw plate retains its organic, striated texture, making it look like a slice of frozen moonlight.
Physical Characteristics
-
Appearance: Translucent to opaque white with a pearly, silky luster.
-
Texture: The surface is usually flat but may have fine vertical lines (striations). The edges are often jagged or “shardy.”
-
Durability: Extremely soft. It ranks at a 2 on the Mohs hardness scale—you can actually scratch it with your fingernail.
-
Solubility: Do not get it wet. Selenite is water-soluble and will eventually dissolve or lose its shine if soaked.
Core Properties & Uses
| Feature | Benefit/Use |
| Self-Cleansing | Believed to never need “recharging” itself. |
| The “Charging Dock” | Used as a base to cleanse other crystals or jewelry placed on top of it. |
| Aesthetics | Its minimalist, icy look fits perfectly with boho or modern “clean girl” decor. |
| Energy | Often associated with clarity, peace, and removing stagnant “vibes” from a room. |
A Quick “Peer-to-Peer” Warning
Since you’re looking at a raw plate, be careful when handling it. Selenite is a fibrous mineral; if the edges are very flaky, tiny glass-like splinters (shards) can come off in your hands. It’s a “look but don’t rub” kind of stone.
Pro-Tip: If your plate gets dusty, use a soft, dry makeup brush or a canned air duster rather than a damp cloth to keep it pristine.
